Not too many designers turn up on The Colbert Report for an interview (and hold their own against Stephen Colbert). And not too many designers tour schools across the country in an Airstream trailer as an advocate for smart sustainable design. But Emily Pilloton is not your typical designer. She’s twenty-eight, an architect, the author of Design Revolution, and part of a great new breed of young designers that are crusading for social change with exceptional flair.
We met Emily at a kick off event for her road trip last month in San Francisco and donated a Dahon Mu Uno and a spiffy Nutcase helmet to her cause. This way she has an alternative to the beefy Ford 250 that she needs to haul her trailer around. Read Emily’s Blog.

Support Project M: Vote here and they can win $25,000
There is another group in this Pepsi challenge that deserves attention: Project M. They are going after a $25K grant for their project to build bamboo bikes in rural Alabama and put one million kids on bikes. John Bielenberg heads up this group. He’s a longtime pal of Studio Forbes and very dedicated to projects that “can have a positive and significant impact on the world”.
The Pepsi Refresh Challenge website can be a little challenging--hang in there.
